  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Love And Pain (the dichotomy of life)

I've been working on this amv for around three weeks, but all compressed down I suppose it was only around 14-16 hours including pre and post-production. I know the anime is overused, but not so much that I shouldn't use it if I felt like it, which I did.

I attempted to go away from the norm somewhat by editing to a fairly fast song, though I tryed to keep the meaning and story that was in the movie (though it's slightly different.)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Please comment.

Okay so, I didn't feel any real good connection between video and audio. The video's story board felt rather meshy and some stuff just didn't work for me. Re-useage of scenes is a 'no no' for me if they're not serving a purpose. You prett much fucked up the flow with random attempts to match the beat. And I also kept get distracted by the blended frames that was through the whole video.

Though there was some really interesting idea's now and then as some of the reversings of scenes and some masks creating a slight scene manipulation which was pretty easy to notice since it's pretty easy to recognize most 5 CM scenes xD

So mostly. I think you should have though of another song, they just didnt work together. Lyric-wise u could have gotten to work, but by gener and the pace of the song it doesn't really work.

Nice try, and hope i was to any help and made atleast some sense.
Keep it up.

Thanks, I guess I need to have a story board in the first place. I pretty much just did freestyle with a general idea and keeping the next few beats in mind. :P

Although i do have one question, what are the reused scenes you're talking about? I thought I proofed that pretty throughly (aside from the bird thing :uhoh: ) Either way thanks. If you don't mind my asking, what do you think was the worst problem you saw in the video? (aside from the song choice)

@judgeholden: thanks alot, I'm glad you liked it. :amv:

Ok, I liked it and that is why I went all nit-picky to critique it.
I haven't seen the anime, so I don't know exactly how much to credit you. In scene choice or edit.

CONS: (apologies)
1. If you are going to use this staccato style of editing you CANNOT afford any errant frames. I found some at 0:23 and 1:16, distracting.
2. The bird usage at 1:33 and 1:43 are completely out of place, unnecessary, and totally detract from the deserved usage at 2:38. That is a wonderful return from the crescendo, but by that point it is just an ugly reused scene.
3. I am conflicted about the dual bird usage at 1:57. On the one hand, I can see that they each come into frame on a beat and sort of fly in pattern and I really like the wavy transition out of it(awesome). On the other, it runs too long. With so many quick edits leading up to it my brain took too many viewings to realize what you were doing. As a man who has trouble using quick cuts because he likes subtlety, if I am saying it doesn't work, you know you have a problem.
4. I really didn't like the choice to do a beat sync at 2:07. Ruined the flow. Don't know what to fill the gap with though.

PROS:
1. Really strong first 1:05. Just Beautiful.
2. Loved the bathroom mirror scene.
3. Loved the arrow transition to paper airplane at 1:53
4. Good use of camera motion and converging/diverging action to give energy without being overused to cause motion sickness.
5. SUPREMELY loved the out of focus shots overlaid coming into focus with the crescendo. You left just enough scenes in focus to keep it from being long and boring plus they parallel a coming together of the characters in front of the tree.

I really liked it. I wouldn't have watched it 10+ times to do this otherwise.
Thank you.
