A question about composing & balance

Post by Angelic_Sabyne » Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:30 am

So for one of my next projects, I'm planning to do an upbeat Vash the Stampede AMV. (Not necessarily comedy, though if anyone laughs, that's icing on the cupcake for this girl). I have a song picked out, and a rough idea of the scenes I'm going for, but I had a question on composing the vid.

What I would really like to do with it is show a pretty good balance between clips of Stupid Acting!Vash and Serious Acting!Vash. One thought I had was dividing the song into blocks of 32 counts (4 counts of 8) and devoting every other block to either clips about Goofy!Vash or ones about Serious!Vash. F'rinstance, if I go this route, I might do "Goofy/Serious/Goofy/Serious..." where each one has 32 counts (about 16 seconds or so) worth of clips. However, somehow this seems too linear for some reason. Would this be too linear and dull for an AMV composition? Would it be better to "blend" the two types of clips in some manner, instead of switching off? (Maybe a goofy clip sandwiched between two serious clips, or vice-versa?)

Any tips anyone can give would be great. Thanks! :D

Tough one to answer... The best way to compose the clips is to go through a small section of the song and set the clips by how they fit with the lyrics. Then about after 2-3 sections of the song, go back and see if the clips flow with the song and
with each other. The better you understand the lyrics, the easier you can set clips that relate to those lyrics. So don't be afraid to look up the lyrics to a song.
For the slower parts of the song, it's better to use scenes that don't have a lot of action to them. For the more upbeat parts, use more of an action clip.

If theres anthing else I can help you with, feel free to contact me. I'm usually on the internet most of the time so I can get back to you quickly.
