what JaddziaDax said, tho i think you should go with masking simply because it would be easier, and look better.

depends how u want it. lowering opacity and maybe fading a bit the edges of the masking could come helpfull. but again it all depends on how you want it to look :)

actually cookie cutter is easier, but thats just my opinion O:
however masking is more accurate
