-If you want good quality you can´t avoid the guides. That´s a fact. However don´t force yourself with the guides. Take your time and work with them step by step.
You´ll learn it really fast. Trust me and even advanced people always take a look again into them to get info. They´re the bible.

Ok short overview for good visual quality:
1. Use DVDs
2. Make them progressive in the right way
3. Clean them up with Avisynth

-Alright. Than render out the stuff in a looseless codec. 2GB is just a normal file.

-Afterwards you compress it. There isn´t an easier way than this one:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... 64gui.html
(If I would start to explain the stuff in detail it would be a complete waste of time, because the info is so good compacted.)

You need to provide much more info than that......

What are your project settings? What is the container and codec your are trying at the moment, obviously I suggest lossless and/or a frame server because premiere still sucks at encoding....what compression (if there is one) are you using to edit in premiere? If your files are compressed to lets say mpeg or xvid then thats probably your reason/ addtional reason your export looks crap..... if you dont have the room and I mean REALLY don't have the room for lossless/uncompressed then DV footage is usually OK to work with....but again I stress a lossless or uncompressed format for editing and export not some delivery format like your mpeg4..
