AVI - Frozen

So I usually just convert my media into the windows format, but for some reason this anime doesn't like that format and wont covert. So I converted it into AVI and am using that.

I can edit all I like and its fine, except when I play it back to see how my footage is acting with the music. You know, the most crucial part? It plays through alright, I pause it, and I tell it to go back to the beginning, so I can continue editing...

Then it freezes.

It does this religiously, I was wondering if it was a bug anyone was aware of, or if I'm doing something wrong while using AVI film instead of the usual windows format.
