is there any image quality loss when converting from mkv to avi?
are there any important things to know before proceeding to such convertion?

MKV and AVI are containers that can hold a wide variety of video streams of different types. Moving from one container type to another in and of itself isn't going to cause a difference in quality (if done correctly).

-converting from mkv to avi will give you bad quality or good/lossless quality depending on the codec and codec settings you use to recompress your video.Myouh wrote:are there any important things to know before proceeding to such convertion?
-Using a lossless codec like HUFFYUV will retain original quality.
-[The file sizes will be very large though, however you can cut the size in half by saving to yv12 colorspace through <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 5">ffdshow compression</a>...]
-generally speaking... if your files aren't big, you probably don't have lossless quality
