High definition sources
I was divided on whether to post this here or the General Anime section. As it's directed at what's available, primarily with the intent of editing with such material. If it fits better in the other section then could a mod move this?
Is there a listing, or could we concoct one here, of what sources are actually available or were at least broadcast in HD (defined as 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, although I probably shouldn't have to spell that out)? I can think of a few, but I know there's bound to be more out there - discounting upscaled raws and from what I've read, even the Blu-ray release of Air. Granted, the numbers are still small, but such a listing would be more convenient for quick reference. For the sake of argument, this could also be extended to sources like games that simply have 1600x1200 resolution event CG (like Ina Koi!), as those can be cropped to 1280x720 without issue.
Off the top of my head, I can recall:
Ergo Proxy
.hack//roots
Ina Koi! (as already mentioned - game), as well as some - but not all - CG from its subsequent fan disk

There's no such thing as "true HD" sources. Those are all upscales.

.hack//Roots was genuine 720p, and it looked great, however an awful lot of fansubs and fansub raws are upcsales. That is SD material that has been resized to HD resolution. Think of taking an 848x480 jpg and resizing it to 1280x720 for sharing with people; you just wouldn't do it.
Upscales tend to have high contrast round edges (so called ringing or halos) and sometimes inconsistant line thickness due to an adaptive sharpener being used. A good example to check this is some static text with a moving background, generally the text will distort and even appear to change shape a bit where it is being sharpened by different amounts.
In short if you suspect an upscale and the possibility of finding real HD videos is looking bad, better stick to a non screwed with SD source like DVD or whatever.
Certainly don't feel obligated to jump on the bandwagon. As well as wasting space, you also cut off a lot of people who don't have a fast enough PC for HD

I don't see where anyone said there could be or was true HD animation... it's animation... it's drawn, so no HD camera is involved. The question was what was "Broadcast in HD."Kitsuner wrote:There's no such thing as "true HD" sources. Those are all upscales.
