*cough* Technical editing question for faster pace Romance

Post by Alfomega » Mon Aug 27, 2007 7:27 pm

ehmm, I do not post on forums often, so my apologies right off if I do something off kosher. This is not due to a lack of respect for the system, but rather I fear I don't often have much of merit to contribute.

Anyway, on to my dilemma. I am attempting to make a RahXephon AMV. Originally I was only planning on creating a general overview-esk Video, but very quickly I realized I was on the fast track to creating a Romance AMV between Ayato and Haruka (I appologize to those who have not seen RahXephon, rest assured these names are unimportant, nor will there be a test) Now normally this wouldn't present any problem, as I happen to like romance, but my song is rather fast paced and I'm at a loss as to whether or not try to make a fast paced romance video with only clips of Haruka and Ayato, or to just break down and use mecha clips on the fast segments, probably losing the continuity of the AMV.

So I decided to turn to those with more experience than myself. If you think I should try to stick to just the two characters, could you point me in the direction of an AMV that has fast paced romance clips? (I have wracked my personal collection, to no avail) Of course, if you feel like giving more in-depth assistance I would be much obliged as well.

I'm afraid that I'm entirely familiar with RahXephon; from what I understnad it's a mecha anime somewhat similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion.

However, if it's generic editing advice you seek, I'll be happy to help. Most of the time romance videos are slower and place more emphasis on the two people in love (or growing to love each other). I have one of my own AMV's linked here that may give you one idea as to where you can go with this:

<b>Video:</b> <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... 143443">So this is love...</a>
<b>Category:</b> Serious, Sentimental, etc
<b>Anime:</b> Elfen Lied
<b>Song:</b> So This is Love
<b>Artist:</b> Disney

On the other hand, if the video has a fast song attached to it, I would recommend not using additional footage just to fill in the gaps. A good AMV is relevant to the overall theme from begining to end, and even if you think some action may help the video that's you're own decision, but honestly I'd advice to just keep more footage of your characters. Then again, if the action holds some story in itself or plot devices that goes along with your romance, then perhaps it could work.

The bottom line I'm trying to make it that you should experiment. Try this with both ideas, put it on the shelf for a while, then come back later with your mind refreshed as if it's somebody else's work. Let me know how it comces out.
