AMV Editor's Block...

Post by RIPmyprsoul » Thu Jun 28, 2007 8:21 pm

I've had this idea for a music video that I've had for a week...but when I try to put it into action in the editing, it just seems boring...like I've used this idea so many times before and I can't think of a new way of editing.

It's like this - I want to make a Sentimental/Dance/Fun video with Final Fantasy. The problem is that when I edit videos, I know I mostly use basic cuts, fades, and fade in/fade outs. It doesn't seem like I use many effects don't I? I've got an idea for a panning and cropping effect but it isn't perfect! It's so frustating.

What do you guys do when you have editor's block? You guys got any ideas or suggestions?

I wait for deadlines and curse a lot. It's worked for the past five years.

I recommend the same thing I do for anyone who has Writer's block. As an author, I just start writing the next sentience, even if it is the worst sentience ever I write it. then I do the next one, and next one, till eventually ideas start to flow and you're back on the game. You then just go back and edit the crap and make it better.

So, simply put, start editing. Put clips on the time line, and keep doing it. It may suck, but eventually the real ideas come. Cut, replace, repeat until the video is done and good.

Set deadlines, especially by actively competing in contests. Knowing you've got 24 hours to have the video done and exported and shipped gets you working quickly too ^^

... You know, if we didn't have so many contest deadlines already, this post would make me want to suggest a NaViEdMo.

With the number of people here that make all of their vids in less than a day from start to finish, it would be more of a benifit if it was a "force people to spend a month on it" thing than anything else.

if youre bored with the ideas you have now, get some new ideas... watch some new shows play some new games maybe they will refresh your thought process

or try to learn something new (a new effect) and try it

No such thing. When I don't edit it's because of laziness or because I need to do other stuff. I can edit whenever I want to, just sometimes I don't feel like it.

I should note, I don't get Writer's Block ever. It always smacked of an excuse to me.

now that would be quite an achievement! Perhaps having a set amount of time during the month that the video should be worked on? I like the idea, but I'm too lazy to head it up.

Though, with my current nanowrimo track record, I doubt I'd be able to finish this one either...

As for writer/vid block... I consider it more like my muse has decided to take a break. I just can't get into the mood to do it, even if I want to. So I just force myself into the mood and lo and behold no more block.
