100MB+ upload confusion on this site

Post by Bauzi » Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:44 pm

Heho,

Originaly I wanted to be patient about this, but well I´m in a hurry and would need this for a contest submission. Uhm... I have a problem with the "request to upload a 100MB+ file" menue.

Ok so I did write a comment into the box and so on and it stood there that I might wait days before confirmation comes. "It´s alright" I thought and I came back a few hours later. Now what do I still see now?

Code: Select all

Video
Title Deus Machina - The Abyss of Mankind
Large Upload
	Request 130,701,223 octets
	Status PENDING
FTP
	URL ftp://xxxxx:xxxxx@Kero.AnimeMusicVideos.org/
	Server Kero.AnimeMusicVideos.org
	User xxxxx
	Password xxxxx
Status
Error No file uploaded (yet?). Please upload one.

Code: Select all

A box with my comment and why I requested it
It´s not that I´m patient, but... This error message really bugged me and I thought: "Hey! Maybe I have to upload it first and than I get permission?"

So I did and after the upload was finished the ftp server deleted the file, because it was too large. =/
Woohoo... I´ve wasted my bandwith for nothing and the site status still shows me the same stuff.

My question before I waste again a lot of bandwith:
-Did I made something wrong or do I have to wait?

My wish:
-Please change it a bit and don´t guide users into a tricky hole. Thanks.
Waiting is alright, but man... That´s so confusing.

You wait for approval, then you upload.

Sounds like someone's trying to steal Kalium's forum title

100MB+ files with legitimate reasons to be so big are usually sped therough the process pretty quickly I thought... Exactly how long was your vid? And how was it compressed (video and audio)?

13minutes
x264/AAC+/mp4
720x480
29,97fps

and the upload was really fast. I only needed 1hour and 30 minutes for 124MB. I think that it was fast. Uhm... I surf with 100MBit/s threw the net.

If so, the site should really remove this:
"Error No file uploaded (yet?). Please upload one." - line.

Oh i wasn't questioning your upload speed, i was making light of the fact that the person (or people) in charge of handling those requests (if the forums responces are any guide) seem to intentionally drag their feet on granting the requests when they feel it's a matter of poor compression - but your vid is clearly over 10 minutes, so it's not that at all. Most likely someone is just busy.

OK! The core point is:
I have to wait first before I upload it. That´s ok. It´s my duty to be patient, ´cause who wants this service? That´s right! I want it.

Let´s sit back and relax. How I originaly planned it.

Yes, I was always a bug magnet .-.

@ "Error No file uploaded (yet?). Please upload one." - line:
Screw you! >_<

Thanks for all of your help! Now the whole thing is clear for me.

the "error no file uploaded yet please upload one" thing got me my first time around...

perhaps if someone were to change that line there so it wouldnt misslead people would be a good thing...

i bet if it said: "please be patient while we review your case" it wouldnt confuse people.

of course i can wait a couple weeks O: (as Doki said hes not going to be able to make changes for a couple weeks)
