A Lain Video Idea (Massive Attack - Future Proof)

Post by Majestic » Mon May 28, 2007 2:58 am

Hello all,

I just completed watching the Lain series which I'd bought at this years Anime North convention in Toronto, and for whatever reason, one song kept playing over and over in my head as I watched it. The song, of course, was Future Proof by Massive Attack as the title of this thread should imply. Now, I do have some video editing experience (My X(TV) video called "Breaking Point" to Linkin Park's 1Stp Klosr can be downloaded here) however, I am planning on going a very different way with my Lain video by comparison to Breaking Point. With the Lain one, I am thinking of staying true to the themes of Lain and trying to keep up that whole trippy "Matrix" feel.

However, there are several forseable problems with this idea. First, both the song, and anime I've choosen are somewhat...oh, how do I put this delicately...slow and boring. I'm afraid that if I do start working on this video, I'll either accomplish everything I'd set out to accomplish in the first minute of the video leaving me with overly repetitious tones for the remainder of the video, or I'll avoid the problem by using all my 'action' clips before the brilliantly dramatic "bridge" of the song, leaving me with bland sequences at times that should be the most entertaining.

Next, I am hoping to make this video with the intention of entering it in competitions. Now, I've seen dramatic AMVs aired in front of audiences before and, lets just say the majority of people loose interest after a few seconds. Is it better I design the video to appeal to the audience, or should I ignore the audience appeal and simply maximize the drama so that I can evoke emotions only from those who are paying attention?

I'd appreciate any advice, and suggestions, people can give me. Additionally, I'd appreciate comments and suggestions on my Breaking Point video to anyone who clicked on the link. Either post them as opinions to my video, PM them to me, or e-mail them to me with the e-mail address I provide in the video. I always try and answer opinions, and I always appreciate feedback and criticism.

Thank you all in advance for any advice you give me.

Sincerely,
Matt M.
