Why do people put credits in their videos?
Is it so they won't get plagarized? Is there any worry of such a thing happening? Or is it just to spread the names of the people who contributed to it?

Most credits (bumpers) are easy enough to cut off so it won't usually stop someone from stealing a video and claiming it as their own if they have a passing knowledge of video editing. There have been many instances of this happening, although I won't go over all that again.
Some AMVs have credits integrated into the video which make it harder for nefarious persons to edit and claim as their own. And certain people (Koop) due to their prominence and skill can make a video that only the totally brain-dead will try to take the credit for.
I assume that most people put credits in their videos for the same reason why TV shows and movies do so. To let people who watch the videos know who worked on, contributed, or otherwise helped out on the making of. People will occasionally like to know what anime sources were used. Sometimes a message or dedication is included. And sometimes the credits are part of the video.
So, to repeat what everyone else has stated, yes, yes, and yes. And yes.

Because the fact that the person saw their org name, the audio file name, the animes used, and how they editted it frame by frame on the video comments wasn't enough pimping for them. Gotta have that compensation on the end.
... As for plagarizism... people are better off leaving a watermark cause credits are easily cutt off... But by leaving a watermark you degrade the amv which no one does for that reason.
Credits for MEP's are normal though for positional reference and time slots.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

eh... there's always the option of cutting in some gimmicks, like a one-frame blend or text you rotoscope in some wall, which isn't easily noticeable...Eva-Fan wrote: ... as for credits / intros they're "supposed" to build up / slow down the tension to mesh well with the overall video and give the creator some credit.
it's not the easiest thing to do, as it depends on setting some kind of mood, but I always do them.
also, gimmicking the shit out of the video is a good way to present your kind as an "elitist ashole", amirite?

well, credits do give the viewer some information about the editor so that if they really liked the song/anime/how the amv was done they get a look at who was responsible. The org has most of this info listed but if someone sees the amv and they didnt dl it from the org or for whatever reason they cant find it on the org the credits still give some nice info. I'm generally happy if there are credits on an amv cause i have used them before to quickly find out the name of song used, the musical artist who did it or to see what anime was used if i hadnt seen it before.
