Title: ADD Theater - Azumanga DOH!
Category: comedy
Audio: various
Video: Azumanga Daioh
Length: 2m56s
Size: 88mb
Format: avi
Editor: Vegas 6.0
Compression: VirtualDubMod (xVid mp4)
Muxing: AVI-Mux GUI-1.17.7

Whatever you think I should know for future reference is good, since I'm new to all this encoding, recompression, muxing, etc. You may also tell me if it was entertaining enough to place in the VCAs. ;)

I can tell right off the bat that 88mb for 3 minutes of video is really, really bad... 3 minutes should be compressed to about... 40 mb max. Especially since your using xvid.

I tried to, seriously. Every time I compressed the video, VDM would throw in audio data where there is no audio. I followed the gide I was given word for word and I still get files that are too large.

I start with an AVI that is 641mb. I did two-pass compression and MUXed the mp3 track in another program because VDM wouldn't. Maybe I'm missing something here..? Tell me if decreasing resolution from 720x480 would help with this?..because I'm still thinking in terms of "convention presentation" rather than an internet host.

*confused*

That's wicked-sweet! I know I have yet to fully unlock the potential of Vegas 6, but there are things I saw there, like in the beginning when the scenery changes behind the characters, which made me wonder if that was the anime or your editing prowess. I guess that's the mark of a good producer. Vids like this make me feel like a total n00b.

yeah making it even one step smaller would do a world of help... and it doesn't really decrease the quality too bad as long as you've cleaned it up nice and compressed well... i'll be leaving an op on your vid soon... (damn essays should write themselves)

also... I noticed that your source video is interlaced... You should consider de-interlacing in order to achive better compression.

Also... I recommend using regular virtualdub... the mod version is outdated and buggy.

If your using two pass compression, then you should be able to tell it what filesize to aim for.
