The History of AMVs?

Despite having been an anime fan for most of my life I didn't get really into it until about 2000 so I missed the whole VHS fan period as well as the late-90's digital video and internet birth for the anime fan community. While I'm fairly well versed on the development of fansubbing, I was wondering if anyone knew about the history of anime music videos, including its VHS or early digital roots. Is there a time that someone can look at and say "here is where it all began" or "the first amv ever was...". How did AMVs catch the eye of convention organizers and become the big public competitions that they are today?

Any insights or information would be appreciated ^_^

I did that, but I guess I gave up a little too easily after the long first page of discouraging results. Thank you for the link.

It's the third link if you looked specifically under "General AMV" and typed "history". NEway, glad to help.
