1:1 for critiquing my WIP

Post by headphone_child » Sat Aug 12, 2006 3:03 pm

WIP = work in progress in case it's unclear.

Anime: School Rumble
Artist: All That Remains
Song: And Death In My Arms (Lyrics)
Category: Serious

Notes: AMV #2 for me (#1 is on another account whose password I've forgotten and didn't care to reset, primarily because the username sucked anyway. If you really want the link (doubtful) then just let me know. I realize that I must thank all those that gave me opinions on my first video, I've taken it all into consideration when making this one). It was done in movie maker. Yes, the movie maker. Thus, I've used effects sparingly and focused on visual sync, something movie maker's actually somewhat capable of. But hopefully that won't discourage you. I even converted it to an AVI, if that helps motivates you. Also, I'm not looking for critique of the technical stuff, more the ideas I tried, and if they worked or not.

I will be doing this until the link expires unless I don't get enough opinions, in which case I'll re-upload.

(Note that I intended for you to read everything above, download and watch the video, read everything below, and then post your opinions. And somewhere in there, check out the lyrics too, because they kinda fit. However, I can't really control what you do so I'll just wait and see.)

Things that I'm aware of already:

I. video quality sucks. will be fixed in the final.
II. audio also sucks, as there are two instances of the song that seem to be a frame apart (forgot to mute one, will also be fixed)
-----
III. 00:40 - timing
IV. 01:36-2:00 - drawn out a bit, I'm wondering if the viewer would get bored
V. 2:25 - perhaps too abrupt
VI. 2:40-2:50 - see IV
VII. 3:21 - timing; the shooting was supposed to be right on time with that cool guitar sounding thing (for lack of better words)
VIII. 4:00-4:20 - timing, this part was rushed
IX. 4:48 to the end - music plays from the original source, is that a problem?
X. ending credits - this'll be edited with my credits instead of the source's
-----
XI. the worst problem in my eyes, is the inconsistent resolution (and I'm curious if anyone would have noticed if I hadn't said anything). Obviously there are subs at the beginning and end (and they need to be there) but during the main video I cut them off with VDub. I wanted to cut them off to be consistent with the beginning and end, but there was just one scene where there were two rows of subs that went over the original cut-off (4:00), so I had to cut off even more to fix that. It figures that that one scene is one I don't think I can do without, so I ask here if there are any ideas. If not, I may just edit each frame in photoshop.

Also, be sure to specify if you want a certain video reviewed or if I can pick any. Thanks for your time.

Seriously? Well that's nuts, didn't know about that. I tried RapidShare, though I heard it sucks, so let me know if there are any problems with that as well.

Sorry about that.
