Who uses Adobe After Effects?

Hi guys,
I just got Adobe After Effects 7.0 and I want to use it for my nxt AMV. The problem I don't know how it works. So does anyone out there know how to do the special cutout trick that Istiv used in his AMVs? How you put that cutout on something like the blade of a sword?
If you own 7.0 or use a Mac like I do it would be more helpful

I'd also reccomend taking a look into this guide. If you want some specific effect you should serch for it in google.
