I'm not sure what kind of liscensing scheme you could use with the music companies. I know I looked into how much it would cost for the now defunct AMV Radio to legally play liscenced music, and the costs were prohibitive to say the least. Not impossible to raise, but definitely high (something like 500$ a month plus a fee for each song). And that's just playing the songs in a webcast. We are offering the songs for public download, which is tatamount to someone actually getting the music for free, so the industry would probably want the same kind of deal they have with iTunes (a fee for each download, plus some sort of DRM to prevent people from taking the songs from the videos which is AFAIK not really easy to do, and definitely impossible outside of .wmv and other klunky formats).Isenfolme wrote: Perhaps it would even be possible to negotiate for low fees on the basis of all the arguments we've seen so far - i.e. that it provides good advertising material, encourages CD/DVD purchases etc.

Well, the music industry may want a fee for the music used in the video, but why should they make money off of the animation studios as well? Its a double edged sword.

I brought this point up long ago with phade in the original topic when this first happended. He said that there would be way too much paper work and legal stuff he would have to go through to get this site legalized like Kaaza or Napster when thy have their fees and stuff like that.
We're living life on the edge right now. lol
