Is this normal?.......
Hi, i found out that some people use other amv's to make their own. I have made 5 so far, and i must admit i have used material from other amv's. Is this wrong or not allowed? Do many people do it?

First, for the site use another Amv to make your own is not allowed.
But, theorically, you can, you can but only if the clips you use are NOT edited, if you use amvs that are basically made of full anime scenes without editing, you "can", but use edited clips is stealing and it is not allowed.

This is very much frowned upon. Creators don't normally like seeing people using their work in an another amv not made by them. Me personally it shows me the person lacks effort if I realize a popular scene from a video. Like if someone took a scene out of Phenomenon created by Sierra Lorna or one of istiv's videos (Shounen Bushido or the Race) at that point I turn off the amv and I don't watch it. One time this happended to me but the creator gave me credit for the clips in the video. He never told me about this and I found out about the video during the Otakon 2004 prescreenings, me and that creator are cool and were actually friends now. However this can seriously upset some creators and don't be suprised if they ask it to be removed.

ah, ok. Its just with dbz and some other anime, its hard not to use some clips as they are so popular. If i do use clips from other amv's then i do edit them, instead of just copying a minute from them. I only take clips that I am unable to get. If i can get the clips on myself, then i will. I used a lot of clips from www.dbzsc.com. In my video "Gohan: Our Hero", i used many clips from another amv called "son gohan". I know that amv is on this site, but i have also seen it on another site which makes me curious if the one on here is copied or not. About 6 months ago i downloaded an amv from limewire called Son Gohan. I think its made by another creator. Anyways, about my gohan 1, do you think i should remove it?, you could take a look and see what you think i should do.

I think its both rude and bad to take clips from other amvs... cause it makes most videos look sloppy/lazy
1. alot of editorers like to "watermark" their amvs, so when someone uses those clips that have been watermarked, mixed in with clips that arent, its not only ovbious that they took the clips from another amv.
2. when you see an amv that has subtitles on some of the footage and not on other parts of the footage, it looks just as bad as the random flashing watermarks. (alot of these amvs i know the footage well enough to know when there SHOULD be subtitles)
3. each time you render or re-render a video clip it will look worse and worse... so varying qualities of clips can be annoying... some clips I've seen have been taken and taken and taken so many times that their quality has completely died.... (and also shows that clips have been taken from another amv)
4. when one editorer changes the aspect ratio, (from full screen to wide screen, or whatever) and you see a source that should have one aspect ratio, infact it has atleast 2 and sometimes 3-4 aspect ratio changes that also looks sloppy, cause if you got your video from a single source the aspect ratio should remain the same.
to me it shows either lack of ability, or just sheer laziness to learn how to get your own source...
~~~~~~~~~
I've seen people only take scenes from my amvs, and you would think that I couldnt prove it, but the truth is alot of them leave in alot of sloppy mistakes like this orphan frame I found in one AMV:
(which reminds me, I should turn them in)
~~~~~~~~~
if its footage you "CANT" get you should try ASKING before you start taking clips... some amv editorers are willing to share... but if you just take without permission that can go to really piss people off...

Agreed. I hear exactly what you are saying. I did it once, when I was "desperate" to get the right footage I wanted on my second vid. But, I didn't like doing it, and the quality stunk as well. Since then, if I can't rip it myself, I don't do it.shinodude wrote:your not sopposed to but iv noticed allot of people do espically newbies to amvs I know I used to-Vegeta- wrote:Hi, i found out that some people use other amv's to make their own. but your not sopposed to steal footage from amvs
It's really just the best policy.
