h.264 (or x264) - Should I start encoding in this format?

Post by Inuyasha the 3rd » Tue Jan 24, 2006 6:50 pm

I've been thinking about encoding my future AMV's in this format for quite some time. I've heard it produces alot higher quality encodes than XviD does. So, should I go for this now, or should I wait? I mean hey, XviD was a pain in the ass at first, but I figured it out. :P So yeah.

Should I go for this codec? Or keep going with XviD?

I had been wondering the same thing for a while... It really all has to do with how much shit you're willing to put up with from the masses of half-wits that won't attempt to understand how to play your video.

I'd also suggest you include a detailed explination on how to get it working with sith several diferent options, but don't expect to not get comments saying people couldn't play your vids...

Hell, I already get that with DivX-compatible XviD. :P

Haha, yeah. Good point there. I'll probably might tell them to install VideoLAN. That would work out perfect. Strange.., I never got complaints about people not being able to play my vids. (I think I did, but I forget.. :|)

Do you know what you're doing?

If yes, then go ahead.

If no, don't bother.

Yeah, I do. But do I apply the same methods I do with XviD, or is it different when it comes to this x264 format? :?

Well, first off, I've been too used to XviD, so yeah. But I would'nt mind reading a guide on how to encode in this format. Because im a total n00b to this.
