correct number of downloads?

Post by Keeper of Hellfire » Thu Jan 12, 2006 8:56 am

I have noticed differences in the number of downloads at the "edit video information" page and at the "local bandwith used" page. Note that all my vid's are stored local only.
edit video information wrote:A Life for a Dream 71
A Life for a Dream (Remake) 98
Noir - Episode#25 87
making a total of 256 DL's
local bandwith used wrote:A Life for a Dream (Remake) 103
Noir - Episode#25 96
A Life for a Dream 49
TOTAL: 248
...
totals by month
...
TOTAL: 274
Especially remarkable is the number of only 49 DL's for "A Life for a Dream", since the "edit video information" page reports it got 58 stars.

So what are the correct numbers, and where the difference comes from? Possibly a bug?

I noticed that too... I thought it may have something to do with one method counting started downloads and one method counting complete downloads, but i'm not sure.

Or maybe it has something to do with re-downloads. I know that in the "edit video information" page it isn't counted as a new download if someone re-downloads a video.

This may be the explaination. The bandwith page says it counts all completed downloads, and a redownload is a completed download too. This explains the higher number of downloads for two of the vids. And the lower number for the third is because it's meanwhile older than one year, so the first downloads aren't counted anymore. For the calculation by month the whole January 2005 still seems to count, so it has the highest total number.

So the conclusion is, that the "edit video information" page is the right one to see how many different people have downloaded the vid.
