Help: Premiere Pro 1.5 Startup Error

Post by Slackerchan » Wed Jan 11, 2006 8:12 pm

Hi all! Before I begin, I have done alot of searching for help in regard to this matter and would have posted in previous topics if they were not locked. Please forgive me if I did not search enough on the a-m-v.org forums; I've searched almost everywhere else.

I've been wanting to do video editing for the longest time and just yesterday a friend of mine sold me his copy of Adobe Premiere Pro v1.5 for a hell of a deal. I installed it and everything, registration and everything all set up. However, every time I go to open the program, I get the following error message:

Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any valid editing modes. Please reinstall Adobe Premiere Pro and start again.

The program crashes just as it is loading a file/thing called Wave_Warp.AEX I went through and examined alot of forums and such via google and they said it was a codec problem, but about 75% of all of the forums refered to a specific codec pack that might be causing the problem. Well, needless to say, I have gone through all of my codecs and have erased those that were listed, but this does not fix the problem. Adobe support says that I have two options: edit the registry or reformat the hard drive. Well, I do not feel safe in either of those options, as the registry option has very vague instructions and, well, I'm not about to sacrafice about 100 gigs of games and stuff.

I could really use your help. If anyone has ever encountered this problem and/or knows of a solution for it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Nevermind, I got the problem fixed. You would think that, given this is a site dedicated to AMV development, someone would atleast have an idea of what to do. Thanks alot. :x

If an admin/mod finds this tread, please let it continue to exist so that anyone who has this problem can possibly get help. The following link takes you to RedvsBlue.com, where I had a long discussion with a guy over the course of a week on how to fix my problem. Though it does require becoming a member in order to view the forums, membership is free.

I encountered this problem and found that it had something to do with the CCCP. What, exactly, no one was able to figure out. In fact, I have my own thread on it, just like you did. It really is a baffling error, and even if you get the people on these forums who know the program inside and out to read your thread it's useless if they can't reproduce the error or haven't even heard of it. Please don't be so discouraged because no one was capable of answering such an esoteric problem; I've found that, on a whole, there are a lot of helpful and highly informed individuals on these forums who have answered most of my questions very well. It's good to hear that you did find a solution, however.

I've run into this problem a couple times, and I've never used a codec pack.

From trial and error, I've narrowed it down (on my system, at least) to the VFW interface for ffdshow in recent builds. The one included in the AMVApp works, but anything more recent than the 1/17/2005 build causes this error in Premiere and makes Ulead MediaStudio Pro crash on startup.

My workaround has just been that when I install ffdshow, I deselect the VFW interface when I'm asked to select the components to install. I'm currently running the 11/29/2005 build without the VFW interface, and can edit with impunity. No registry edits, no format/reinstalls, just a single uninstall/reinstall of one filter.
