opening MKV files

Post by Gepetto » Tue Dec 27, 2005 10:45 am

I have a problem opening mkv files. They play neat and clean, I can select the video streams and subtitles, but there's no audio. I have the Matroska Pack Lite 1.1.2 installed and DivX 5.1.1. Some of the files are DivX 5.2.1 but others are DivX 5.1.1 and they still don't play audio... What could be wrong?

It probably uses AAC audio, in which case you need CoreAAC (scroll down until you see The CoreAAC directshow filter). To check what type of audio the MKV has in it, go here and download the Shell Extension. Install it, and then the data on what the MKV contains will appear next to it in Windows Explorer. Of course, if you already have it, just either hold the mouse to the right of the MKV or right-click and select Properties, go to the Matroska Info tab, click on the speaker icon, and it'll tell you what type of audio it is in the right hand window under Codec ID.

the second page there didn't load, and I don't know how to install the CoreAAC filter

The files played back fine in VLC player, though. But I really hate VLC player...

Whoops, wrong link. Here's one to an installer. Just unpack it from the Zip file and double-click on the .exe file.
