A List of Things..[how do I redo my videos to qualify?]

Post by anime_angel_ash » Mon Dec 19, 2005 7:48 pm

I wasn't sure which section this should go in, so if I have the wrong one, please forgive me.

In a few months, I plan to attend Sakura-con 2006. In addition, I want to enter a few of my AMVs in their contest. Unfortunately, my videos don't fit a few of the requirements.
Entries may only be submitted in the following formats:

Acceptable Digital Media Formats:
AVI: HuffYUV, Uncompressed, AVI DV, MPEG-4 (DivX/Xvid)
MPEG: MPEG-2, MPEG-1.
Audio: A bit rate of no lower than 44,100 (44.1k) Dual Channel, Stereo

Unacceptable Formats (Disqualification)
Windows Media Video: WMV
Real Media: RM, RAM, RA, etc
Authored DVD: (When you make it play as a video DVD in a DVD Player. You are still ale to submit the files as a Data DVD)
...And must conform with the National Television System Committee or NTSC standards of 29.97 frames per second, and be no smaller than 640X480.
Basically, if I want to entire my videos (which I do) then I will have to conform to these rules. Thus, I need a program that can convert WMV files to one of the more acceptable types (preferably MPEG) and another that will change the dimensions of the footage (also, I should probably throw in something that will get rid of subtitles and logos, since they probably don't appreciate those much). So, does anyone know where I can find such programs?

Okay, I'm guessing that you're exporting from Windows Movie Maker, since you mentioned the WMV format?

In which case you would be MUCH better off exporting a DV AVI instead, if you can do it without ending up with sync problems. Read this:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... xport.html

Luckily enough, a DV AVI out of Windows Movie Maker conforms to Sakura-con's standards.

As for DivX logos (if those are the logos you're talking about), you can turn them off in the DivX decoder options -- there's a checkbox for "Disable Logo" on one of the tabs.

As for removing subtitles, you'd better check this out:

That, and there are a few more icons I need to remove. For instance, the AC footage I used has a nice big TechTV icon in the corner. :(

Thanks for the information. That should be very helpful! :D

...and now that I look at the page, there is one problem. I'm working from a computer with Windows ME, therefore I can't download or use WMM2. :( Oh dear...

The procedure should be similar for the original Windows Movie Maker; I know it can do DV AVI export...

I checked the program, and if the option is available, it's not making it very obvious. I also checked the help topics, and it claims that the program only saves as wmv. Stupid thing.

This window should come up when you select "Save Movie..." from the File menu. Notice the selections on the drop-down menus.

Video for Web servers (28.8 Kbps)
Video for Web servers (56 Kbps)
Video for single-channel ISDN (64 Kbps)
Video for e-mail and dual-channel ISDN (128 Kbps)
Video for broadband NTSC (256 Kbps)
Video for broadband NTSC (384 Kbps)
Video for broadband NTSC (768 Kbps)
Video for color PDA devices (225 Kbps)
Video for color PDA devices (150 Kbps)

the dv-avi option is under the save for my computer option
not sure if mine is wmm2, but the options you listed are identical for theweb save setting
