AVI problem

Post by Space Chief » Fri Dec 02, 2005 7:49 pm

Hi, I'm Space Chief. I've just gotten into a-m-v.org but I've noticed that a lot of the videos are in AVI format. When I try to play them, it goes to Windows Media Player, the 'visualizations' come on, and I can hear but not see what I'm playing. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this? It's pretty frustrating.

No. That site has the codec you need if you want to watch .avi files compressed with DivX and DivX compatible XviD, .avi is a container, not a compression method.

when this topic was started...it was to ask how to watch .avi files becasue when this person opened a .avi file in windows media player the audio would come on but not the picture...

Stop saying "THE codec you need to watch .avi files". It's wrong.
There is no one codec that will work for them all.

How do you know that the video the OP is trying to play wasn't encoded with, say, 3ivX or XviD without a DivX FourCC?
