Calling Mac Users: Interlacing issues

Hi, I've been making AMV's for as long as I can remember, and this still has me absolutely stumped. Interlacing. Let's take my current example. I've just bought the whole series of Dragonball Z on DVD. Great, now I can make full quality DBZ music videos, right? Wrong. At the moment it'd seem I'd be better off with downloaded avi's than with this footage. I think the interlacing is built into the actual DVD because even when I watch it on Apple DVD Player I can still see the interlaced 'flickering lines' effect. I've tried all kinds of deinterlacing filters, nothing seems to work. Seriously, I'm at a loss here. I just want to make some decent quality AMVs

So I guess this is just a long shot. I just wanna know if there's anyone out there who's had the same problem in the past and found a way around it. I've read the guides, and it all seems so simple - they don't even mention interlacing, even though it seems most Anime DVDs these days are interlaced. Is this only happening to me??

Computer: iBook G4, 1.4GHz, 768MB RAM
DVD ripper: OSex
Editing software: Final Cut Pro 5

There is a TON of discussion on interlacing.
Most of the methods of solving it that are discussed there probably wont help you any though, since you are on a mac and all... I honestly don't know of any way for Mac users to properly handle it.

In programes like DiVA and MPEG Streamclip (can find all of these at MacUpdate.com) there is a interlacing checkbox that should de-interlace the footage. ffmpeg X has a de-interlacing abilties too. I would think that FCP would have a de-interlace option when you export it.

Cleaner 6/6.5 for Mac can inverse telecine and/or deinterlace your video.

(Cleaner 6 that is) Wow, thanks so much, I was just about ready to give up hope. Now I just gotta find a way to get $500 for the full version

Or I could go on cracking ones.....oops did I say that out loud?

Using Diva's deinterlace option worked for me, and it's free. Worth a try!

haha you're right, DiVA actually works better than Cleaner, and its free. Quality stuff. Well I'm gonna stop being such a noob and leave you guys be. Thanks, my problem is officially solved. Now I have to accept the fact that if I want high quality footage I'm gonna need some serious HD space. I should be cool for the moment since i just got a 200GB external HD, and I can always cut down what I dont need and so on. Anyways, bye for now
