Post by jethropr » Sun Nov 20, 2005 3:39 am

Is there such a thing?

If there is that anyone knows of, could you please post it? I'm looking for some hardcore gang stuff, if it's out there.

any help is appreciated.

I don't think "gangstas" are that common in Japan, so it's not represented as much in anime. I know X and Midori no Hibi have groups of young (teenage) boys who are pretty much gangs. However, they are really small side characters and they aren't nearly as hardcore as the gangs in the US, but are more just like a bunch of punks/bullies.

well... it doesn't need to be "hardcore" so to speak, just really violent.

The first few episodes of Gungrave are a fleshback of the main charakter where he was in a "teenage"-gang......

Only saw the first few episodes so i don`t know if the whole show is about gangs or how long/many episodes the fleshback lasts.

Yeah, I'd go with GunGrave. It's literally about Gangsters. Samurai Champloo has a large hip hop influence.

Yu Yu Hakusho featured some gangs at first, specifically those guys that hang out with Kuwobara and some others. Take your pick, they're around.

GTO? The Gokusen? Cromartie High School? OK, they're all comedies, but still....

There's a manga published by Tokyopop, I believe it's called Tokyo Tribes, about hiphop/gangsta culture in downtown Tokyo.
