DVD->AVI->PSP

Post by varxtis » Thu Nov 10, 2005 8:32 pm

Okay,
I would like to know if anyone would be willing to help me (step by step) because I am just not getting it.
I want to get an anime (with Subtitles like CCS movie 2) as an avi so that I can then convert it to MP4 and put it to my PSP.

I was using DVD decrypter to get the VOB files and then PSP video 9 to convert straight to MP4. But it has NO Options for subtitles.
PLEASE help me. Cuz this is frustrating the crap out of me.
I have gone throught the guides and I have gon through www.videohelp.com for guides, but nothing seems to directly link.
DVD->PSP (WITH subtitles) would be nice... but DVD->AVI->PSP would also be appreciated.

i think psp supports h264, so you might want to chcek that out.

well, i don't have a psp. so...
here goes.

why not use avisynth and textsub it, or vobsub, if you're lazy.
well if psp supports softsub that would be easier wouldn't it.
all you need to do is convert to "avi" using the right profile and then mux to mp4.
get mp4box

or you can straight away frameserve to nero.

In short you will have to decrypt the video, OCR the subpictures (ie DVD subtitles) and output it to a format like SSA.

Then create your avisynth script, IVTC and resize to the PSP's allowed resolution and apply textsub using the SSA as the source file. You will probably have to mess with the text size in SSA to make it readable.

Then if PSP video 9 supports avs files as input, dump that in and encode it. If not you might need to encode it with the X264 command line and mux it with mp4box.

You can find some good info and links in a recent H.264 thread in this forum, and I really suggest checking out Doom9, I believe they have the allowed settings somewhere (PSP is picky with what it allows you to use)

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful right now, time is short, I may return and be a bit more thorough, but be checking Doom9.
