I've been using wmm for a while now, but I'm sick of problems with the program. So, I need to get a new editor program. I need one that is cheap. It needs to have the ability to slow down or speed up video, but I must be able to choose how much faster or slower. It would also be nice to be able to have two videos going at the same time; one video faded into the background. It must be able to accept allmost every single file type.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Make sure to include the cost.

hmm...
I was using Pure Motion's Editstudio 5.
It pretty much has everything that you described.
It's easy to learn, and is relatively cheap.
You can find more info at the official site

the price listed is:
£49.00 ($85.75) Including VAT at 17.5%
US dollars price approx, actual price depends on exchange rate at time of order.
They have sales from time to time, which decreases the price to about $75
supported filetypes are as follows:
• Video: AVI, DV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, QuickTime (MOV), Windows Media (WMV)
• Audio: WAV, MP3, MP2, Windows Media (WMV)
• Picture: BMP, JPEG, GIF

Obligatory plug for Magix Movie Edit Pro 10: it's one of the most powerful video editors you can find for under $100 (actual retail price is more like $50!), plus there are enough people here who use it (or an earlier version) that you should have no problem getting help if you encounter major problems.

I've never actually used either one. But Magix has a demo version of Movie Edit Pro 10 available for download:

You can use that to see if the software works well for you before buying.

And oftentimes, "better" or "best" among video editing programs depends on what you yourself are comfortable and familiar with and what capabilities you do/don't need.

It says i have to register. Is this registration going to be free and with no junk mail? Is there a way to get it with out registering? I don't want to register and then possibly not use the program.

Do an AMV search for Euphoria, the creator has it in his bio that he uses Magix Movie Maker. Neat effects. I think you'll like it. I downloaded it but I decided that if I was to make AMVs, I'd better spend the money on something good.... Premiere Pro 1.5 and Photoshop 7.
