I need help

Post by Artha » Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:44 am

Hello. I'm a Final Cut Express user, and I always make my videos there.
Recently, I've had a problem, because my friends don't have QuickTime and I have to convert my .mov to .mpg
The video quality that I get is horrible.
I've seen videos in .mpg format with an incredible quality and I've wondering: Is there any program to convert directly into MPEG1 other archives?

NOTE: To convert my videos I used to use my CD Recorder. I put into Make Video CD and then Save as Image. So I copy the AVSEQ01.DAT and change the extension to MPG. A little long, but it's the only thing that I can do. Would you help me?

The best program hands down IMO for converting files to mpeg 1 or 2 is Tsunami MPEG converter (tmpegenc). There are free trials for download from their website which is easily googled. I'm not sure however if it will convert quicktime files as I don't believe I've ever done so.

However, there is another program that I know works very well for files that tmpeg doesn't do and that is RiverPast Video Cleaner. Any file I couldn't get tmpeg to convert it will do.

My best suggestion for your friends would be for them to either download a copy of quicktime or download the quicktime alternative codec which allows quicktime files to be played without the quicktime player.

Also, the reason the mpeg videos that the burner converts for you look so bad is because of the way it converts the video. There is a significant difference in quality between that and what tmpeg can produce. Also, the burner program forces the footage to meet VCD standards, where as tmpeg allows you to use any standard mpeg compliant resolution and you can also increase the bitrate of the footage to increase the quality even more.
