what about tying in the main members page into the message board by having a PM link that takes them into their inbox as well as lets them know if they have any new PMs over the message board. if need be I can code a link

really your talking about a link (in an already long menu) that will save people the trouble of clicking on another link in the same menu?
It just doesn't seem like it would save much time/agrivation (especially compared to some of the other things on the to do list.)
