My computer hates me!

Post by digifreak » Fri Aug 26, 2005 9:43 am

ok my old hard drive died so I got a new one, but I saved most of my video files on an external drive. So I start trying to get some of the footage back that was on the hard drive that crashed and when I saved it in Virtualdub as a .avi with Xvid like I always do, it plays all slow and laggy, while all my old videos play just fine.
Also when I import all my old videos from my external drive into WMM, it won't play it.
And now all of a sudden none of my videos work at all. Not a single video file on this computer will play. I'll open it and all it does is show a black screen.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong?

I've downloaded just about every codec I can think of.

Update DirectShow (A component of DirectX, so get 9.0C for it).

Belive it or not, that's how alot of codecs work now a days. Which is also why you cannot screen-cap most videos when they play.

ok, I updated Directshow, but nothing's changed. I tried encoding the .avi with a windows media codec and it plays fine, but WMM still won't let me edit it. And none of my video files that don't have a windows media codec still won't play.

I should have worded that better. I meant that only video files with windows media codecs work on my comp.

yes, I've had that for a while. Although, whenever my media player crashes, it shows the ffdshow taskbar thingy, but when I put my mouse over it it dissappears.

FFDirectshow doesn't have a system tray Icon I think.

I know most OGM filters do though.
