New anime means new AMVs?

Post by Spellweaver » Tue May 03, 2005 5:47 am

I was looking through random AMVs particularly new ones that have come out the past week and noticed an AMV to an anime that was just released. I can't recall the particular AMV or anime at the moment, but there must have been at most 3 episodes released, yet someone made an AMV about it.

I was wondering if anyone could explain the logic behind this. Is it that they just want to be the first ones to do it? Do they think "Hey people are going to like this anime and will look for AMVs to it, and I'll be the only one"? Or do they think they have the anime, or its characters "figured out" enough to have the perfect song for it?

To me it looks like it’s another example of anime X + song Y = AMV. Or the publicity of having the first, everyone after that "will have to be compared to the original." I see it with music to when a new song comes out, but that doesn't bother me as much, I could listen to a song for the first time, and if I truly listened to it and got the message I might be inspired to make an AMV to it had it brought one to mind. I know this is kind of a lengthy rant on my part, but I was wondering if I was alone in this feeling or not?

animeX + songY may equal an amv, but by itself it does not equal an idea, let alone a real concept. If someone does that for the sole reason of being the first in then they're idiots. However just because someone makes an amv after only 3 epps have bein released doesnt mean that being the first is their specific intent.

Could be worse, they could have made an AMV to a series with just one episode out. Now that'd take a real moron.

Oh shush. That's a good promotional tool :P

Also, I made a Wolf's Rain video with only the first three episodes when they came out. Sure, I was limited in the footage department, but I accomplished with the video what I wanted to do.

You strike a very good point. I don't mind seeing AMVs with very new anime. I treat it like a preview. Hell, I wound up buying a crapload of DVD anime series, OVAs, movies because of the AMVs I watched (old and new). I most likely would never have gotten ANY of them if it wasn't for this place.

New anime series are what people usually watch "now". So it is quite possible that one gets an inspiration to make an AMV out of it while the series is still running. With inspiration born, the result is an AMV with recent series in it. Happens a lot in my case. Add the fact that because the anime is currently running there are raw files circulating which are easier to get "now". I actually have to reign myself in from doing these instead of some older projects that has been hanging around for years. I have had ideas for stuff like Scrapped Princess, Last Exile and Cromartie that I have forced myself to wait until the DVDs are out.

I made an AMV out of an anime series that only had 3 episodes out at the time... And even then I only used mostly just the second episode of it.

My reason for making this AMV though was not because I wanted to be the first to be the one to make it. The reason was because I wanted to test myself how fast I can make a video that was still of good quality. It had nothing to do with trying to increase my hits counter... I just figured that since I was liking the anime that I was watching then, I figured, why not use this footage because it was as good as any for the concept I wanted...

So in the end, whether it's 3 or 1 or an entire series that you've already seen of an anime, it doesn't matter that you make an AMV out of it I guess so long as your motives are for the betterment of your own talents and not to inflate your ego.

Oh.. forgot to add that I'd be lying if I'd say adding a new anime used in the org's database wouldn't create a certain originality ego boost ;)

Unless its something realy out their that the vast magority of amv'ers have trouble even puting a concept to, then i dont see how the chosen anime is in any way related to originality.
