Iron Editor Challenge
As many of you have probably heard, this year Quu(Patrick Bohnet) will be stepping down as coordinator of the Iron Editor Challenge(formerly know as Iron Chef AMV). This is the event that made it's debut at Anime Weekend Atlanta 7 in 2001 and soon spread to Anime Central along with a short stint at Fanime. Not wanting to see his pet project fizzle out, Quu has asked that I take over for him in order to keep the project running.
Rest assured that the event will continue to take place with the same level of professionalism, quirky secret ingredients, and top notch talent we've had for the past four years. One improvement over previous years will be a dedicated pair of identical AMV editing machines which will travel to the conventions hosting the Iron Editor Challenge. This allows for the editors to have machines specially designed for the demands of video editing as opposed to rental machines with flakey firewire ports. These machines are graciously provided by Otakorp, Inc., the non-profit organization responsible for Otakon. In addition to the competitions held at Anime Weekend Atlanta and Anime Central, the Iron Editor Challenge will be expanding to Otakon and Anime USA for 2005. Stay tuned for details.

Best of luck with it, of course. Who'd MC?

In regards to Otakon, who will this competition be open to? Previous year's winners? Is it invite only by the corrdinator, or will people vote for who they want to see compete? Also is this event an acual sloted event in the program this year or is it an "unoffical" part of the convention. (I doubt the latter since the editors are provided by Otakorp.)
I understand that you may not be able to disclose answers to these question yet but I just wanted to throw them out there for thought.

Geberally in the past Tee editirs were invite only. I can see why, since ity's important to have someone who can handle making a video and help put on the show. Iron Chief has always been about entertaining the crowed otherewise it's totaly boring to sit and wathc two people edit unless your an editor yorself...

Pat ran into the problem of name dilution. There were so many "Iron Chef AMV" events popping up both online and at other conventions that he wanted a new name to help differentiate the original project from all the clones. So, starting with last year's AWA he changed the name to the Iron Editor Challenge. It also helps to make it sound more professional as opposed to a food-themed music video. I'm trying to continue the name recognition as the event expands to Anime USA and Otakon so that folks know all four events are run by the same organizers.dokool wrote:...wait, you guys changed the name to Iron Editor? We decided to call our event at Anime Boston Iron Editor so it'd be different than Iron Chef...

Just like the Iron Editor Challenge events that take place at other conventions, the Otakon one will be invite only. It will feature two new competitors since this is its first year at the convention and thus there is no returning champion. Pat already had two people lined up for Otakon but it looks like one of them won't be able to make it so I'll be selecting a replacement. And yes, this will be an official event at Otakon.Black Sun Productions wrote:In regards to Otakon, who will this competition be open to? Previous year's winners?
