New Anime: Howl's Moving Castle

Post by Valanne » Fri Feb 04, 2005 1:29 pm

Hi! I hope I'm in the right thread... anyway, this is my problem! I just made a Howl's Moving Castle music video (Howl is Hayao Miyazaki's last movie, as you probably already know). It just doesn't let me upload it, because it doesn't recognise Howl as an anime (I added it myself to the list). So, does someone have to approve it, or something like that? If it's a different problem, here's the link to my video entry (with no links to the video, obviously):

Thanks! :D

Well, I could confirm it... and I probably will... but given that we don't like people being open about piracy here and given that it has not had an official non-cinema release anywhere in the world yet I'm in two minds about confirming it yet.

I don't think it counts as piracy, because I'll buy the dvd as soon as it hits the stores in my country, so no one will lose a penny... it's just I want to share my love for this wonderful anime with everyone, but I could never NEVER suggest through this video to see it only as a bootleg version and not buy the dvd!!!

However, it does count as piracy from every logical standpoint other than yours. Nobody should own a copy of the DVD right now since it hasn't been released anywhere, which makes whatever copy you have illegal.

You could even do something that partially covers your ass and wait till the DVD is out anywhere (probably in about 8 months in Japan and a year later in the US) before posting it to begin with.

This site could be taken down in an instant if any of the big anime companies felt like it, not to mention the RIAA. I can just visualize Disney seeing material it has the rights to floating online months ahead of the theatrical release and getting lawsuit-happy.

But hey, if you're chill with that on your concience, let's see if the video's good to begin with.

Farlo's talking about US cinema release, I was talking about JP DVD release, based on looking at the Japanese cinema+DVD release dates of Spirited Away and assuming that Ghibli will do the same thing.
