Crackling audio

Post by Alpha_Hazard » Mon Jan 31, 2005 6:59 pm

Okay, don't tell AbsoluteDestiny, because he's been stalking me saying it's not his fault...which I suppose it isn't technically...But I've been having heaps of trouble since I downloaded AMVapp 2.1...I thought I had fixed my Video problems but apparently there are still a few that won't play...and now I've discovered that all my audio crackles...

Now I have nothing but respect for Ian and the work that he does and I don't deny that I am grateful for the AMVApp...but can somebody please help he figure out what is wrong here? I'm not exactly an advanced user when it comes to all this software so I may need to have my hand held...please though, can somebody help me figure out why my audio crackles so much?

In videos you MAKE or in videos you PLAY? There's abig difference between the two...

If it's videos you MAKE then there are a lot of possible causes. Three that spring to mind are:

a) Encoding the final audio to a VBR .mp3. That can cause some skipping in the audio, not sure about crackling though....
b) Not setting the "Audio Interleaving" to "1 frame" (that's in the Audio tab in the Export settings in Premiere, if it ain't Premiere then I don't know where to look but that's definitely something to check. Also check it in VirtualDub (right-click on the audio stream, select "Interleaving" and make sure it's 1 frame, not 1 ms.).
c) Not using a .wav source. Premiere sucks are decoding and recoding stuff, so it can muck up .mp3 source, especially if it's not a constant bitrate .mp3. And let's not even get into .ogg. :)

If it's videos you PLAY (like anything you download) then you might want to check out your sound card settings/drivers and make sure there's no conflicts. And then check your speaker wires for breaks. And then your speakers in general (they might have busted cones/rattling piezeos).

That's all I can think of....

It's in the videos I play so, consequently, if I play a video I made it also crackles..but enough with technicallities...

Also, if you had read carefully you would have noticed that the only thing that has changed is the installation of the new amv app. thatis when the problem manifested, and so that is, I am infering, what is causing the problem, since I do not fuss with my sound card settings and I don't move my speakers around enough to cause any wear or tear.

I figured it out finally, all of the problems have been stemming from my stupid ATI TV Tuner, the crackling was actually super low volume television chatter! Damn piece of shit.
