Progressive rock/metal suggestions?
Can anyone suggest some progressive rock/metal for me?
I havent listened in awhile but since i saw botes vid with blind guardian, which reminded me of iced earth, i started up again.
So...anyone got suggestions?
only suggest the things that not everybody knows of cuz chances are, ive heard them before, after all i happen to fit into the category of 'everybody' =)

Progressive rock as in the progressive rock movement?
Gentle Giant (70's prog with a genuine English Renaissance music vibe)
Progressive rock as in rock that is progressive (although at one point did, by chance, start the 'movement')?
King Crimson (duh?)

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Oh yes, about an album's worth of samples for each (although honestly, neither's range is covered well in them, you do get an album's worth of music for both of em from a legal site.)
Gentle Giant
King Crimson
Actually, if you're really interested in Prog Rock, check out this site in general:

Just so you know, neither Blind Guardian nor Iced Earth are progressive metal. They are power metal.Dave_911 wrote:Can anyone suggest some progressive rock/metal for me?

Now... would you like me to recommend prog metal or would you like me to recommend power metal?
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Dream Evil-Children of the night
Falconer-Mind traveler
Ayreon-Beyond the last horizon
Manowar-Warriors of the world
TadMorose-NucleraSkies
All of them are really catchy melodies. For something more modern sounding get:
Motograter-Collapse
Story of the year-And the hero will drown
But what'll really pawn you are Blind Guardian's "A night at the opera" & "Nightfall in middle earth" albums. Also NightWish's "Once" is really exceptional. If you want singles from these two check my profile

The circle is now complete...other new prog-power bands are more or less superfluous.
