So, I've been starting out my adventures in DVD ripping, and I ripped the vob files off of Samurai X (each is about one gig). I then made a d2v file, an avs file, and then ran it through Virtual Dub. I split the entire DVD into about 4 equal sections.
I turned off the audio when I used VDub, and started to convert them to AVIs. They all came out in the quality I wanted, but my main problem is that each is 9 gigabites or larger. This is from using 5 vob files that are each 1 gig. A usual DVD holds 4.7 gigs, but now I have 40 gigs worth of video from this DVD. It doesn't really add up.
In conclusion, is there something I'm doing wrong with my avs file, d2v file, or VDub?

Well, if you are converting to HuffYUV or uncompressed AVI, then there is nothing wrong. It's quite normal for the .vob files to give much larger AVI files.
Quick answer: nothing's wrong. It's working exactly as would be expected, although you could save as YUV instead of RGB (or RGBA) to save some space.

If hard drive space is an issue, then get a standard VOB editer ( like I use ) andaznfs wrote:like me..... my poor hd -_-Kalium wrote:Scintilla, that's more of a style of working thing. mix and match things directly in MPEG-2! . The program is free
and should be listed in the guides.. The learning level will make your
nose bleed, but it does save a lot of space on the old hard drive
