AMV Dinner @ AWA - Plan B

AMV Dinner @ AWA 2004 - Plan B

I've decided to make a change in plans concerning the AMV dinner at AWA. The pizza party plan has been canceled and we are moving on to Plan B. THE DINNER IS STILL ON, SAME DATE AND TIME.

Short Version

Who: All AMV creators, their guest, and those significantly involved with the AMV community
What: Dinner at Carrabba's Italian Grill followed by random hanging out at the con hotel
When: Thursday, September 23 @ 8:00 PM (we will be meeting at 7:45 PM)
Where: Meeting in the con hotel's lobby at 7:45 PM, near the ice sculpture by the front door
Why: We didn't have the interest levels for the pizza party, also planning issues came up
RSVP: Post here or email red_wolf@mac.com that you'll be coming. An RSVP isn't mandatory to attend (people who join us at the hotel lobby will be welcomed) but it lets me give an approximate head count to give the restaurant before we arrive.

Cancelation Details

The pizza party has been canceled because of a several issues. First, I just wasn't getting the level of interest needed to pull off something elaborate that required lots of advance planning. I know we had a fair amount of initial interest and technically the registration deadline was still a couple of weeks away but the current number of registered attendees was low and the current number of paid attendees was way too low. There was also some planning issues that came up between me and the Galleria. Not enough to warrant canceling and the Galleria was still being pretty good to us, but it added on to an already growing pile of issues. And there was the underlining issue of not everyone able to come due to the event's nature and cost, something which ate at me since I want everyone to come to dinner. Finally, and this may not sound significant to some but I have learned the hard way it is for me, I just had a bad feeling about the event. So all those factors in play, and the fact that I was still in a position to pull out and reorganize without costing me or anyone else a lot of trouble or any money, I have decided we are going with Plan B.

Plan B

Plan B is a little less glamorous but should still prove to be a good time and will be a lot more open to everyone.

We will still be meeting in the lobby of the Renaissance Waverly (main con hotel) at 7:45 PM Thursday, September 23 (the night before AWA). We will gather near the ice sculpture nearest to the hotel's front door. From there we will head to the restaurant, Carrabba's Italian Grill where we went to last time. As with last year there will be a short walk (about 5 minutes) due to a lack of enough transportation (stop flying in to AWA and we'll change that). However I will be asking for those few who have cars to drive those who, for one reason or another, just can't dare the perils again.

Carrabba's has arranged for a section of their restaurant to be reserved for our group. For those who weren't there last time, all the restaurants in the area are smaller versions of what you may be use (most likely because of real-estate costs in the area). We will be restricted to booth seating but we will all be in the same area and wondering tables is not out of the question. And keep in mind we will have plenty of lounging time back at the hotel. Individual checks will be available, gratuity will be automatically added on due to our group status, and everyone is responsible for their own dinner. The drinking age in Georgia is 21 and they will be checking IDs. You can view their menu at http://www.carrabbas.com/menu/pdf/1105.pdf

As before this dinner is for AMV creators and people who are significantly involved in the AMV community. This includes (but is not limited to) AnimeMusicVideos.org staff, VAT staff and guests, those who contribute significantly to the Org's forum or AMV mail list, etc. You are allowed to bring a guest, but please limit it to a significant other or a friend who would otherwise be left alone Thursday night.

RSVP

I'm still going to be asking for an RSVP from those wanting to go but this will not be a closed event. The RSVP is so I can give an approximate head count to the restaurant before we arrive. AMV people who find out about the dinner and join us in the lobby will still be welcomed to join us. To RSVP either send me an email at red_wolf@mac.com or post here. I will sporadically be updating a guest list located at http://www.redwolfstudio.org/dinner/guests.html with those who have signed up.

Those Who Have Registered And Paid

If you have registered for the pizza party I'll keep your name on the guest list for this dinner. I really don't see why anyone would cancel due to a change in venue (especially with a lowering of the cost) but if you need to just let me know.

Those of you had already sent me money for the pizza party (a special thank you, BTW, for your early support) I will be returning your money this week. Those who paid via PayPal will get their money back through PayPal. Those who paid via check will get their check returned to them in the mail. Those who paid via cash will get a check from me for the same amount in the mail.

The Apology

I do want to apologize for the sudden change in plans. I hope I did not inconvenience anyone severely. The pizza party would have been great, but it just wasn't a feasible idea at this time. But Plan B is a go, all arrangements have been made (oh, the joy of so few arrangements) and I'll be looking forward to seeing all of you that night. My thanks for the support and the early registrations. And no one should feel this was their fault, I think it was mostly a matter of over reaching on my part. Besides, as long as we have fun who cares, right?

Just to let everybody know, I'll have a rental car for the weekend, so I can fit 3 (or maybe 4) people in my car so they won't have to cross THE BRIDGE OF DEATH~! on the way to Carraba's this year. If anyone wants a ride with me just simply ask. Thanks.

I thought it was the Canaidan eatting trees you didn't like?

For those who weren't there last year, there are two bridges we cross. The first is above the very busy highway next to the con hotel and is fully enclosed. It leads to the nearby mall, BTW, for those wanting to know where some more food sources are. The second goes over an interstate, has a sidewalk a bit narrower than most sidewalks, and has way too low of a railing. As long as everyone walks single file and doesn't screw around it isn't a problem. But several people in the group, including myself, have a fear of heights and crossing that bridge after dark (there are street lights) wasn't fun for us.

So now who isn't going? :P
