How can i convert a video to a smaller file size?
ok..i made a vid in premiere..converted it to AVI and all that fuss, then converted it to mpeg, and its still 40,599kb!! my comp always shuts down while uploading anything over about an hour or so..i have a dial up so it takes 3 hours to upload something this big, is there another program i can use to convert it and make it a smaller file size..?

Here's a few alternatives for you
How about burning the large video you are trying to convert to CD/DVD and get a friend to upload it for you.
If you knew how to set it up on Bittorrent you could have a friend download it for you. (Bittorrent supports resuming, so you disconnecting wouldn't matter)
You could also (and this is probably one of the better ideas, except burning it for a friend to upload) Winzip it, but turn compression off. When Zipping video you gain next to nothing anyway, probably 1% at best. Make sure you do it with Winzip 9, then once the Zip file is made, you can split it into smaller files. (10MB chunks upload alright you think?)
You could then send these to a friend who has high speed, or I could just leave my computer running as an FTP server and let you upload as you please.
Or you could even get yourself on Kazaa and have a friend download it from you (wouldnt matter with the disconnect because it lets you resume).
If you do, make sure you get Kazaa lite because that has no adware/spyware.
People will appreciate a nice quality video more, so it's worth the effort

the winzip, i kinda get it, but if its split up...would i have to put it back together to upload it onto the site..?
and i have KazaA lite, i dunno if my friends do, i know they have KaZaA, but im not sure if they could even find my files..

Huh? Every CD reader on Earth should read a properly recorded CR-R, unless it's REALLY old. If you friends have DSL, they can't be so outdated on readers. You sure you are recording it correctly?Shadow_Leaper wrote:the only problem with the burning method is that none of my friends have a drive that can read the discs O.o

Re: umm...
Your computer shouldn't be defaulting to burning VCDs instead of normal data CDs.Shadow_Leaper wrote:the CD-R thing...that counts for VCD's..? cuz thats what my comp saves them as..O.o i dunno im just new to having a burner and a DVD drive in one..O.o...
What program are you using to burn? If you've got WinXP, you can just drag the files to the CD drive and burn that way. Should produce a normal data CD, readable by almost anyone.

What you SHOULD be doing is burning the video files as FILES, that is, an ISO CD. As in the same way you burn a whole bunch of miscellaneous crap to CD. If this makes no sense to you, then put the CD down and RUN, dont walk, RUN away from the computer in the opposite direction.
