svchost...

well, my computer is idle... and two svchost processes are running at 20-30% -_- wtf? this is a fresh install of XP pro. i ran norton with the latest virus defs and also a spayware scan. anyone here know what's up with this?

hmmmmmmm. well i didnt know what svchost was so i googled for it and found this. aperently svchost is somekinda dynamik link library that helps IE run or something. idk it was kinda confuseing. maybe u will get something from that thread. the person asking for help seems to have a similar problem and the thread has alot of info on it. hope this helps :?

yea word of advice dont end the task :cry: cause if u do the computer tell u it will self destruct in 1 minute

i think last time my computer was idle and svchost took up 99% cpu and i ended the task... silly me

i figured out what was causing it through turning off services one by one... not sue what this service does exactly but my computer seems fine without it... the service is the SSPD Discovery Service, which according to the discription is to discovery UPnP devices on the network... :\ don't need that anyway, lol :P

Services that normally take up only 0.01% of your computer's attention will take up a lot more on a really crappy system. What's your hardware?
