Chat
I've just read ADs posting about the AIM chat.
How about making a normal IRC chat, you can put a link to a Java-Client to the main page instead of the AIM link and server/channel information for the more advanced people who wants to use their own clients to join. An direct IRC link would be also nice for people with mirc or other clients that understand these kind of links.

If we set up an IRC chat, I'd be glad to be the mod of it. Most people use IRC anyways, and if someone gets too annoying, they can be kicked (like this will happend often, lol). If they repeat or do wores repeatedly, they get banned.
But, yeah, if we can find a server and make a room, then we can just use that as the chat room, and it'll be moderated.
Now... to figure out how to work IRC again...

Now that it's summer, I can leave my comp on just about 24/7. And when I get my laptop, I can have it just stay connected, except when I'm on the road or at someones house without an ethernet connection...
I used to go on the Gamesnet server all the time when I was in a clan for starcraft and diablo 2.
They're a pretty decent server, dunno about others though...

The problem is not having someone connected all the time, there are bots that can handle making mods to ops etc. but to have people around to actually kick/ban people if its needed.BrsrkEva wrote:Now that it's summer, I can leave my comp on just about 24/7. If someone of the admins registers a channel on a popular irc net and gives a handfull of forum regulars who wnats to chat mod status then it would work just fine.

I've discovered that peak time for n00bism in the AIM chat is between 6 and 10 AM, and after 6 PM until around 2 AM. I'm usually on until 3 or 4 AIM, but not up until noon. I'm usually around when I'm needed, it's just that I'm usually playing games, lol
I'll be having 2 comps running also. my p2 333 POS which will have IRC and will be my fileserver, and my laptop which I will use for college and gaming, and will also have IRC on there incase I'm away from the POS or juste happen to be looking and see a n00b making an ass of himself.

So far, it's unanymous to make an IRC chat.
I'll check into servers and try to set up a room after I get done running errands.
If anyone has a good experience with a server, let us know, we'll consider it. Modding it would also help, and that would be appreciated if someone helped us do that too.

OK here's the deal.
People set up an IRC chat room. Sort out all the details and post them here for a trial period.
There are no promises, however, and the chat room will only be endorsed once it is seems to operate well 24/7
I do have a wishlist, however, that I'd like the channel to satisfy.
1) No fserves of anything that are not amvs and ONLY if they are your own amvs or you have asked permission to host them. The minute this is broken the chat room will be disowned.
2) I'd like ops please
3) I'd like someone to set up a bot for logging of the chat rooms. Trolls and flamers will receive forums bans as well as chatroom kickbans.
4) This has to be a dedicated effort. Only set up this channel and bots if you (and the other ops) are willing to be responsible for it. If it becomes vacant or loses its server channel status then it can't be an effective chatroom for the org.
I do have people in mind who would be good at being ops for the chatroom based on chatroom regulars who I trust but those can be discussed privately with anyone setting this up.
Once someone has set up something reliable then I can have further private discussion with them.
Any other details can be fleshed out later. I'd like some discussion on this thread about server choice as that will be an important factor, I think.
