Mac Amv question

Post by LightningCountX » Wed May 26, 2004 12:49 pm

I dont know much about mac's. I wanted to show my class some of my amv's in class and the teacher okay'ed it but she has a mac in the class. Is it safe to install Gordian Knot 1.6 on a mac and not mess anything up? Also, can you install Windows Media Player on a mac? I just want to be cautious about these things cause i dont want to break the computer

Actually, there is a Mac version of Windows Media Player available. It's a free download. It does, of course, suck, but it works if you need it. Sometimes.

Okay, I've got a iBook G4 here, and mostly for viewing AMVs I use Quicktime or VLC. Quicktime will play back DivX/XivD once you install 3ivx. The only problem is that AVIs with mp3 audio will not play right, because QuickTime's AVI reading is broke. You can use the DivX Doctor to convert AVIs into MOVs, which are then playable on both Windows and Mac. Alternatively, use VLC, which can play AVIs, including some with windows media.

Unfortunately, the only way to play Windows Media 9 files on a Mac is with the Windows Media Player for Mac, which has one large flaw; it cannot read AVI files. If you have a WMV or ASF, you're good. Otherwise, you're screwed.
