Weird pixelation error in Premiere

Post by PDFarsight » Sat May 22, 2004 12:36 pm

Hey guys. I'm trying to make an AMV, and I think there might be something wrong with my settings in Premiere. The file plays fine in Virtualdub, WMP, etc., but in Premiere there is some pixelation whenever there is a major movement. I have a picture of this occuring...

See the blue pixels? Those are not supposed to be there. I messed with the project settings, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Any more information needed? Thanks for your help.

one thing i learnt when i was using premier was to never trust the preview window, at things allways play and look alot beter when their exported.

so export the file and see if the blue pixels are still thier

I did export the file, and it still had the pixels. Even the exported file in WMP had the pixels still there. It's like once it runs through the project the pixels appear. They do not, however, play in the Clip Window in Premiere before I drag and drop it to the Timeline.

Something might've happened when you got your footage. Try re-ripping the DVD

Well, the weird thing is that it's not in the source vid when I play it in any other player. Why would it be just when Premiere enters it into a project?

What kind of file are you importing into Premiere?

DivX/XviD encoded files?
WMV files?

Do you have the original DVD to re-rip your footage?

or

Did you download your footage?

It's certain files using the Divx 5.05 codec. Other files of the same type work fine.

The weird thing is, those same files also worked with no problems the last time I made a music video. In fact, the picture I showed in my first post is from the exact same source file as my previous music vid (the one that worked). Could a setting in Premiere have changed?

And yes, it is downloaded material, but the main thing that bugs me is that it used to work. What has changed? And if so, can it be changed back?

Also, the only difference between the files (based on the Properties from the Clip Window in Premiere) is that the one without pixels is 24 bit pixel depth and the one with pixels is 16 bit pixel depth. However, Premiere won't allow me to change Depth in the Video Settings of the Project.
