Raise the limit in Top Star Scale?

Post by Jnzk » Tue Apr 27, 2004 6:45 am

I think the limit to get to the list is a little too low at the moment. There are often many videos that drop significantly in position after the initial 5 stars. Wouldn't a more reasonable limit be something like 20 or 25 stars?

Hey,

The reason for the low star count is so that potentially good new videos can get exposure quickly. The reason they drop quickly is because the videos aren't very good. Just yesterday, I downloaded one that was on the first page of the all time star scale list with a low count and it sucked bigtime. The only way it could have been there in the first place is because only the anime's fanboys downloaded it (and they give high scores to videos with that anime no matter how good the video actually is) or the video creator's friends gave it high marks. If a video is deemed good by most, it will stay in the higher ranks. If a video is deemed bad by most, it will go down quickly. A few people cannot keep a good video down or a bad video up.

I guess that's a valid point. It's just that I and probably a lot of others who check the list from time to time don't even bother downloading a video with less than 20-50 star ratings. But it's not too much trouble to do your own "filtering". ^^;

Would it be a good idea to have the limit definable? Wouldn't necessarilly have to have a user interface to it, us nerds would be happy to append &limit=25 to our urls ^_^. It'd only be a
pseudo-code wrote:$limit = round($param[limit]) || 7;
if my nonleet php hacker skills serve me correctly. (And the alteration to the SQL code as well).

Hey taeli,

Yeah, I've had that in mind. It's that silly time thing that's holding me back...
