suggestions for good, and working, mpeg2 plugins for windows

my recent problem with whatever mpeg2 decoder this machine had led me to uninstall the codec and search for a new one. tried a dvd program a friend had, but it caused all my programs to lock up when trying to load an mpeg2 file.

does anyone have any suggestions for what mpeg2 codec to get so I can view my mpeg2 files in WMP or winamp?

Elecard works and MPC has its own built in.
