DivX playback problems...

Post by gargogyle » Tue Mar 09, 2004 3:33 pm

:?:

I was wondering if anyone else, and I know of a few, have the same problems playing DivX files that I do. While watching the file will start to lag in the video part of the file and the sound goes on normally. Is there a reason this occursn and if so how do I fix the problem?

If it is a Hardware problem, please inform me;
950mhz Duron
256mb ddram @200bus
Windows XP
Media Player 9
all tweaks for winXP for performance (unused services disabled, nothing running without my knowledge)

Would I be better off upgrading to something like an AMD 2200+XP?

My brother has a 1800+XP and still has the same problems...... w/ 512 mb 266mhz ddram....

It could be a divx setting.

I'd make sure that "smooth playback" is NOT selected and that "generic mpeg4" is also NOT selected :)

The divx start menu section has an item called divx decoder settings (or something like that). You can configure the decoder there. Or, if you can't find that you can load adivx clip into media player and the decoder settings should be somewhere in the menu under properties. (I don't use mp9, so I don't know exactly where).
And since you'reuzsing xp, you could also go to the control panel>system>sound, video, games controllers>video codec>divx codec
and configure it from there. Take your pick. :)

Im guessing that disabling all post-processing might also speed things up a bit.

Well, I found a way to play DivX and XviD files with out any lag. I really hate to do it because it is not something I prefer and I hate swtching for half the videos, but now I will just use the divX player that I downloaded with the codec from the website and use that to play the divx files. Like said, I really prefer not to, but I have to in order to watch an entire music video without missing in some cases entire sections of the video.
