I say WIP it....WIP is good!
browsing other art baised forums i noticed alot of them have a WIP (Work In Progress) section.
mayhaps the ORG could do something of the same?
i supose detailes about hosting could be hammered out, and mostlikly be left up to the creator. but this would be a good way to find out if your going in the right direction, or to get feed back as you go. would help in preventing REMASTERED amvs, as the creator would be sure the video is good in the eyes of the public before it is finished.
wouldent need an offical reviews section made for it, reviews could just be comments left in the thread. and as for hosting, since its WIP, footage quality could be left out of the raiting so people could upload betas to hosts like anglefire.
your thoughts?

I think this is an excellant idea. I would like to see a forum section for WIP as well as donut hosting for them. Of course hosting would be limited... maybe allow a 50mb filesize max, and limit each person to having 1 WIP available at a time, though allow the file to be modified at any time. The hosting aspect sounds like it would take some work to implement, though even just a forum section without hosting would be nice.

i agree. i was going to say letting the doughnut host up to like 15 megs, and letting the creator delete and replace that file as often as needed. for a beta, footage qualtiy should not be judged, unless the creator is trying to imporve the footage quality, in witch case two files would be needed, for a before and after. but compressing the hell out any beta, even one's up to two minets long would make the file size less then 20 megs easy.Zarxrax wrote:

Yea, definitely. Say, a 50-mb restriction and a 1-week limit would be just fine; and even less would do. I think that would be functional enough, and probably not too complex to set up within the existing database.

Very nice idea.
Although, 50 mb is a little excessive. Most people should be able to get betas down to half that.

And yea, I am talking about a 'best-case scenario'. Frankly, I'd buy even 20mb for 2 days or something. As long as it lets us get the feedback we want. And we could have a nice WIP exchange forum, too ^_^

Hey,
Creating and managing that could be quite difficult and/or time consuming. It would also put more drain on the bandwidth resources that are already nearing capacity. It is much easier to have a "testing" Geocities, etc., account where you can ask some of your friends to take a look at the test version from there. Having only a few people download it from there won't kill your bandwidth limits for that service.
When people come to the Org, they expect to see good finished video, not something that is half baked (both in concept and execution). I know that's what I want. Having a WIP section would only muddy the waters more than they already are. You yourself should be able to tell if your AMV is on the right track as to what you want it to do. You are, after all, the video creator. If you have technical issues with certain effects or whatnot, ask the "Help" forums. That should cover about everything.
As for avoiding people putting up test versions, there is going to be a quiz before entering video information and uploading the file. This will be more than just a checkbox for "yes, I understand". It will actually ask questions that the user must answer correctly. The questions will be pulled from a list of possible questions so that people won't just memorize the right combination of radio buttons to click.
I hope this helps. Thanks again and have fun!! ^_^

i think for once im goin to disagree with you Phade. see over at OCRemix, you expect to find done and finnished remix songs, but they also have a WIP forum. *or was it VGmix*
CGTalk is another web site where you expect to find finnished works of 3D CG art, they also have a WIP forum.
in all honesty, the Beta swap has been around for a long time, its not like this is something new, its just what i am saying is to put it on a larger scale then what most AMV creators can possably get from the AIM chart room.
if having the org host it is not an opition, then just setting up a forum for people to drop their own links and get feed back is not going to undermine the goals of the site its self. it would actualy help the actual site, as the inflowing of crap could be filtered out before it ever gets uploaded.

saying that also defeets the meaning of the reviews section.Phade wrote:You yourself should be able to tell if your AMV is on the right track as to what you want it to do. You are, after all, the video creator.
