re: DV AVI files, scene detection, automatic file generation

I'm not recommending this program, just mentioning it in case someone wants to play around with it. It's limited to DV AVI files, doesn't cost any $$$, and the older version won't even install on your PC. All you have to do is run the EXE file.

I tested it with only one clip, one that was darkly lit and without a lot of contrast (laboratory scene from "Metropolis"). The success rate was only about 50%...a few good cuts along with some needless cutting of a longer scene. Different scenes may have better success rates.

Go to the Scenalyzer download page and select where it says "to download the old freeware Scenalyzer".

To use it, first select a file by clicking Add Input-Files. Then set an output filename at the bottom of the window. Then click Scan Optical. A list of cut-scene files will appear. If you don't want to save one, select the filename and click "Write selected scenes=NO". Last step: click Write Scenes at the bottom. The Options page can be used to change the optical scan sensitivity.

I also tried the newer version called SCLive. It appears to only work for DV capture devices, not with already-captured files.
