Kill off members who don't do anything.
I know this sounds pretty extreme, but hear me out. Have you ever searched through the "Other Members" section? Sure ther are tons of people there, but practically more than half seem like they never come to the site a-m-v.org. Their profiles are empty, no comments, no reviews, no music videos.
I figure that it's just a waste of a good login name. OK, maybe this sounds a little rude, just kicking out people because they don't participate in anything. But if that's all they do, nothing, than they can simply enter as a guest (in other words, don't log in). We can always give them a warning of some sort first, by e-mail. Anyways, that's what a guest is. To enter without any sort of commitement. (I forget where a saw this, it said you are a guest or something)
I say this because I like reading about new people. How their lives are, or just check what other kinds of people like AMVs. But this search is difficult when you pull up empty profile, after empty profile. I'm sure other members would appreciate this too.

Some people join just to subimt videos. There's no reason to bother with filtering out which people have videos and which don't. Extra members don't really hurt us at all. It's basically just extra work.
Yeah I guess it's a waste of a log-in name, but I think we're all creative enough to think of one, eh?

I wouldn't mind Phade killing off some "members," especially those that forgot their passwords or for some other reason, like say, they resigned their role as a member.
Here's my idea, if you haven't logged on in the last say month, your membership gets deleted.
But there's also one more feature to add and that is, once you have logged on you can choose to have a "Do not Delete" message of note by your name so that if for some reason you don't visit in that month, you don't get deleted.
What's more, ppl with videos get automatically exempted from the kill list. This makes it less cumbersome for ppl who just want to have their videos on the org.

Sounds like a great idea
One should really find this to be a valuable contribution to the .org.. really.
But one month is a bit extreme.. I'm an active a-m-v.org member and yet sometimes I've ben more then 3 month without a computer..
I think that after three month emails should be automaticaly sent out warning users to login an reminding them of their old passwords so they don't freak out.. BUt after a period of let's say 6 months the account just gets deleted..
I think there are more than 40% of accounts who are just ghosts.. like you said.. It trully chewes me out..
Not because of the lack of usernames but becouse of the lack of will..
AMV .org is truly a wonderful idea and people shouldn't just abandon it like that..
ALSO I think there should be a "DELETE ACCOUNT" option available..
For instance, say I wish to destroy my account for whatever reasons I might need it to be distrupted..
Why not include that option and (for example) if you decided that was a bad idea / you were hacked and someone did it instead of you / you did it by mistake.. there should be a month period while that account is still available for recovery..
I think those couple of bits really shouldn't be hard to code.. considering how much work has been put into a-m-v.org till now.. And it would refresh, yes that's the correct word - REFRESH a-m-v.org
Kindof like cuting your hair so that it can grow stronger..

That's another great point melezov. I never really put to much thought into the specifics but these ideas are pretty good.
Oh, ya. Everyone seems to keep bringing up my point about the username thing. I never meant to put it like there wasn't enough names, I was just having trouble coming up with solid points to argue with.

Question mark.
Hmm..
I have a question..
Do the site administrators ever actually read these suggestions?
Becouse I know there are too many of them, and people tend to repeat what others already noticed..
I'm a bit new to the forums.. i never interacted with the .org using them so I'm not that hot with info..
Considering the whole Killing of accounts bit:
I know I am not the reference judge here but i really think that this method could be easily adapted into the a-m-v.org site shell..
I'm not talking about the "Delete my account" bit <- that requires a whole .org redesign, but think "Killng old accounts" idea...
It would take maximally an hour of code and beta testing and one post to the main page confirming the new rules.. but then again, who am I to say.. It could almost easily also take the whole .org shell re-compile..

No idea. If they do, that would be great. I'm sure they do once in a while, though. Anyways, it doesn't really matter. I just think of this section as a place where we can all dream and share those dreams with others. ^_^melezov wrote:Do the site administrators ever actually read these suggestions?
