paladin
The first definition given to you I felt was kind of off, forgive me for saying so, but it was kinda vague and a bit stereotyped. A paladin is a knight who has dedicated himself to god and fights in his name. In the numerous fantasy worlds out there, paladins often can heal, call down holy powers to smite their foes, and are known as righteous protecters of good and the weak. Their goal overall is to seek out evil wherever it may lurk, turn it to the light or destroy it mercilessly.

Paladins were the knights of Charles the Great (Charlemange...gah, I can't spell French words). Stories about the righteousness and miracles performed by these knights led to the use of the name 'paladin' to refer to any heroic religiously-devoted knight-type person.
